a smashing saturday

alvin and i have been so caught up with the microb welcome tea that we've left all the halloween prep till after that... so basically we've only just started having loads of fun discussing costume ideas and running all about to look for cloth and other supplies.

on saturday, while we were out searching for cloth and after meeting the interior designer to pass her a cheque, we decided to pop by alanna's Black Alice booth at Isetan Scotts... to nurse my deep-seated desire to try on a lolita dress. heh.

i was so shy at first but once the dress was on, i was flouncing around in layers of petticoats, ruffles and laces AND IT FELT SO GOOD.

doesn't really show in the pictures though. haha. i felt fat and stiff. bleargh.

i'm utterly in love with lolita now.

the first case of halloween

this time our lab was in charge of food, which is a whole lot more slack than our usual decoration stint...

so we grabbed the chance to work our swedish student, clara, into the food prep!

menu:

1. ikea meatballs - not that she couldn't hand make them; we were just too lazy. popping them into the microwave is fast, fail-safe... and only $3 more.

2. swedish pancakes - mmm with strawberry preserves smeared into them, and then rolled up.

3. swedish crackers - these tasted so light and fresh with capsicum. mind-blowing, coz they looked so plain! how deceiving!

so here we are at Hon's place at 11am. clara had done one batch of pancakes and i was SO BORED i took over.

8423_168070576955_527986955_3345136_8038866_n

making pancakes was so fun. fried butter smells nasty though.

here's our master chef!

and our professional crepe roller... HON!

while we were busting out our sweat pores somewhere in bukit panjang, the peeps over at md4a were working hard on our prof's costume - it took them about two days of painful sewing.

here's the final result which i thought was really one of a kind:

10942_308957510433_673705433_9647012_4319149_n

alvin did the snout (which could open and close) and gloves! and the pouring of fake blood across the chest.

10942_308957515433_673705433_9647013_327549_n

while our prof was dressing up, the food stall had already been done so i decided to look a little goth. but alas, how to be goth without black eyeshadow and black lipstick? i looked at my pot of purple eyeshadow and glanced at my face.

i dabbed them on my upper eyelids. hmm abit glam rock leh...

how about lower lashline? *dabdab*

OH I KNOW!! *starts smearing the purple lower and lower... onto my eyebags*

i stepped back and looked at myself. my eyes looked bruised.

PERFECT.

i also put some under my cheekbones to create the gaunt look. never knew purple makeup could be so useful. :D

anyway, when we were all done we gathered in the seminar room at 3pm. check out the parade of our profs garbed in horror!

look closely; it's morticia addams

10942_308957675433_673705433_9647033_883961_n

brb

alright, time to take a break from etsy hunting and scurry down to town to help the boyfriend find a leotard, preferably with leppard printz...

and maybe dress up as a lolita for a few minutes! *EXCITED*

i'd like to see these on my walls

QUIRKY stuff i'd love to have in our house

a magnetic spice rack! how cool is that?! :D

from etsy seller GneissSpice

---

following items are from the neatorama shop:

the titanic ice tray -

and matryoshka measuring dolls/cups! -

---

the illusion table, from essey (maybe binbin, penpen and wipy from essey too):

and the bladeless fan from dyson! i also suspect
alvin wants to get as many dyson appliances as possible.

oh oh i almost forgot! the R2D2 projector... but it costs a bomb, so maybe we'll just settle for the wastebin.

---

i suspect my WAF is pretty low... good for you, alvin! :D

nailed my palette

pantone is awesome: all i had to do was search for taupe and immediately i've got a palette with muted neutrals and blues and greens. it was love at first sight.

i'm thinking first 4 shades for walls and ceilings (but not like 90% cream and 10% taupe, would prefer a 60% cream, 40% taupe/gray/sand ratio); 5th shade is my furniture, and last 5 for soft furnishing, and decorative ornaments.

what say you, alvinbebbie?

link

meet my two new best friends

... etsy and pantone. i'll be with them this entire weekend because of my indecision.

alvin and i met our ID (interior designer), faith, early this week and saw the colour scheme she and her partner had picked out for us. it was a lot of beige and white, a very neutral palette. which is nice...

... but i didn't love it. i remember sitting there and going... wow this is... not making my heart sing at all... :(

so i asked about taupe walls, but was suggested taupe accessories instead, and i was cowed by the fact that hey i have no design skills, and these two are designers man! so i caved and agreed with the original beige scheme.

straight after we left the office, i turned to alvin and frowned. he went, 'omg dear if you want something why didn't you say so??'

'i tried!! but i felt like i was being veto-ed.'

'so how? let's go back and tell faith to change?'

'huh... i feel bad...'

in the end i decided to accept what the designers had. for that night.

---

fast forward to last night: i was going through etsy (as usual) and favorite-ing pieces that i love but have no money to buy, when i came across paintings and home decor. as usual, i opened tabs, wow-ed at choice objects, and thought about how nicely it would fit into the new house...

then i realized that the colour scheme and design of the house is pretty modern and will clash with almost everything i love. i was crushed.

but that was also the point when i felt a surge of decisiveness and told alvin that I NEED TO DECORATE THE PLACE MY WAY. because once it's done... it's too late to change anything anymore, and i really want to be able to love my home, not have a designer house.

and alvin was right in one thing - to show our designers what we wanted and they're there to help tie in everything together. the reason why everything is delayed was because i wasn't decisive nor clear about what i wanted.

so now i'm going to make a collection of accessories and colours that i love, and give it to faith by monday.

there's no time to waste! i will also post choice images when i find them! :D

the queen of errors

i spent the whole of last week cutting the calls of a manicure parlour which was stalking me...

...

... only to realize that it was not the manicure parlour that was trying to get through to me.

IT WAS A JOB OFFER.

(more about this soon)

bridal forums

everyone knows that bridal forums are full of tips, dos and don'ts, and extremely useful comparisons of price, service and quality of whatever you need to find.

but i can't stand reading them.

this is why:

"They reallie have veri good service attitude, the manager there was veri nice, threw in lotsa of freebies for my package. He say as long as he can help n dun make a loss, he will try his best. of coz i know they have to earn oso lah... but their package is reallie worth it. Veri sincere guy, hes the boss oso, so can make decisions."

i get annoyed after reading 10 posts using the same type of 'language'. and i'm only at styleweddings.sg... SGBRIDES IS TEN TIMES WORSE.

sigh.

my diet plan for today

6am: threadmill (30min)

730am: forgets about breakfast

9am: arrive in school, stuff face with breakfast

12pm: not really feeling the hunger; lunch = fish soup with noodles

1pm: start thinking about the rather bleak-looking coming 4 months, with nothing but fish soup and yong tau foo in it.

105pm: caved in and opened up my strawberry love letters reserve comfort food

2pm: stomach starts growling... *waves fist at love letters* 'YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO STAVE OFF THE HUNGER! AND I FINISHED TWO PACKETS TOO! YOU'RE USELESS!!!'

430pm: started to beg alvin to bring me out for dinner because my stomach was beginning to gnaw on itself; also because i started daydreaming about 10,000 different dishes i wanted right now.

5pm: alvin leaves me while he guffaws at my attempts; i call my mom to ask what's for dinner

530pm: fantasizes about porridge all the way home

7pm: 'MOM YOU COOKED RICE??!?!' *image shatters*

702pm: stuffs my face with rice, soup, fruit, mooncake

---

my diet plan for tomorrow - no more fish soup nonsense. and if i want my ice milo I WILL HAVE EET.
