Day 2: (Tokyo) Disneyland Part I

be prepared for photo overload.

we woke up bright and early at 6am though we were meeting wai liong and alanna at 845am! that's because disneyland is pretty far away from central tokyo man. but the ride there was fun, changing lines and finding the correct exit made us pretty breathless too. we had bought onigiri from Family Mart before we left Nakano (i hadn't found Bon Bread yet, ingrid!) and i realized... i do not like onigiri. it's so... plain. and the stuffing they use are mostly pickled. yechhh.

I like onigiri, some of there are really taste sensations! Esp mentaiko. It's quite a good breakfast for me, esp with the seaweed.

we had more breakfast at this noodle shop within the Maihama subway station... it was not good. oh well, my priority was to fill my belly so i gobbled almost everything up... until my tongue shrivelled up from all the salt. the boys had curry rice, which was much better than my soup soba.

yeah, it was alright... until I realised it was to be the only kariraisu the entire trip!!!!!! NOOoooooOOO...

when we met with wai and alanna we wasted no time in walking towards disneyland. YAY!!

can i just say - the people in the costumes are freakin' amazing. i don't know how they do it but they move JUST LIKE the character and behave just like the character!! and most of them don't talk!!! i don't care even if you tell me stuff like they're paid to do so or disney head-hunts such people... THEY'RE STILL AWESOME!! *respect*

We didn't buy any of the above photographed items. I did buy Tricia a tigger tail, which I trick her into wearing for laughs. We can also play pin the tail on the Tigger.

on the way to fast pass Buzz Lightyear, we saw wall-e and eve. i actually saw eve first because wall-e blended in so well with the soil and foliage... then i was like, 'OH!! wall-e is here too!!!' in a totally shocked voice, haha:



haha who would've guessed? :D

It took quite a while before Vivien realized I was trying to pose like Wall-e, while giving my best robot face impersonation.

yar i was like, what are you doing? i thought he was trying to propose so my heart leapt to my throat... but i realized everyone was trying to get me to pose like eve, so i guess no proposal then. WAH LAU YOU SCARED ME. -_-"'

it's so great in japan because you don't get screamy children and the lines are orderly! not only are the people very respectful of personal space, the park has facilitators (NOT A SINGLE ONE WITHOUT A SMILE ON THEIR FACES) to ask you if you're 'daijobu?' and if you are lost or anything. T_T

Even the cleaners come up to you if they see you looking at a map. CLEANERS! WOW. They're armed with pamphlets too, and if you're lucky, they'll dance around while pushing their carts. Either that or they'll fight the onslaught of the wind and falling leaves with great futility.

after fast-passing buzz lightyear we went for the star wars simulator ride. it's ok to wait because there's so much to see!!

THE BUZZ LIGHTYEAR SHOOTING SPREE:



this is super fun. we paired up to compete against our partner and our first ride was pretty humiliating, alanna won, while chuu and i lost. chuu had the lowest score because she didn't know what was going on while i lost to alvin because OH YOU MEAN THAT STEERING WHEEL IS FUNCTIONAL?? NO WONDER THE CART ALWAYS SWUNG TO YOUR ADVANTAGE!! gah.

it's ok. round two's later. let's go check out the cinderella's castle first.

I was thinking the ride had 7 carts, each with one dwarf name... Until 2 dopeys came out. Zzzz.

the ride was like a haunted house thing. you go through scenes of the queen witch and her mirror, then *POOF* she turns into an old woman so it's all dark and moody... then suddenly there's whistling (?!), OH! you see the dwarfs, and it gets all bright and cheery... but soon enough it gets dark again because the old woman appears... with her apple... oh no snow white... no... :(

chuu and i kept scaring each other in our cart until at one point nearing the end of the ride SHE SCREAMED coz there was this unknown figure... very slim and gaunt... pasty white...

OMG IT'S ALANNA GIVING HER DIAO FACE LA WAH LIAO.

so we were just sitting there gaping at alanna's diao face (she was very bemused by the ride) while the cart dragged her off first. DAMN SCARY LA, WOMAN!! sheesh!

This ride is symptomatic to how... psychedelic Disney can be... one moment it's dark, then it's bright to the point of over-gaudiness, and then it's scary again. Sometimes that's why Disney cartoons aren't for all kids. It's... very ironic in a post-psychotic way. Alanna's diao face probably didn't help.

next, we went to the Haunted House which was a great treat for the eyes. so many visual tricks - my favourite scene was the one where they had ghosts flying upwards and some encircling a hole. damn pretty. when we came out, there was a stone wall for Bluebeard:

after strolling about we made our way to the outdoor theatre for One Man's Dream which i bitterly regret not filming it down so i can watch and rewatch the dancers over and over. it's absolutely sugoi how the people in costume dance with their huge and clumsy shoes. nuts!!

this black and white portion was so brilliant. they completely made the costumes and backdrop in grainy greys, blacks and whites so you really do feel like you're watching a very old film. :D





Then it bursts into colour! Probably not a quick-change, just... another Mickey.













Don't you just love the little tiny ants behind? Great attention to detail.







And they're not all the same height! Thought it'd be a prerequisite.

THE DANCE OF THE PRINCESSES IS SO GOOD OMGOSH I WANT TO LEARN, ALVIN!!!

when the show ended, alvin and hanbin KEPT ON singing 'one man's dreeeam...' ARGH.

I kinda missed some of the show cos I was busy testing the camera out - and learning how to use it quick and good. I think my shooting improved as the trip went on, somewhat.
