the strange race

too many mishaps and strange bumps during this F1.

at the point when all of us were right there at the Grand Prix watching the screw up at Ferrari, everyone was dead silent. all our jaws were slack, some with hands covering over their mouths in shock.

the one thing that kept running through my head was: why didn't anyone run to massa?

i turned to alvin and joked, 'i'm sure the entire team will be fired, and maybe left behind in singapore without a return ticket.'

it was a great race, but i'm still reeling from how... messy everything was.

i'm still glad i was there. the atmosphere was electrifying!

i'm losing everyone to canada!

(ok i'm kinda stuck at home right now, wanting to go to work but can't coz it's pouring like mad outside. as the guys enlightened me last night, it's probably raining so much these few days coz they're seeding the clouds before F1 starts.)

YET another one of my friends is moving to canada. well, it's on a work permit but she may just move to another country when the permit's up.

zhexuan we'll surely miss you and your drunk giggles. :D

we held a bbq party for her farewell... it was done at my place coz my parents aren't around this entire week. hehe.

i love bbq-ing with these girls. they're so relaxed; they ALL drove to my place, and they have an extremely good sense of cooking. i just took pictures coz i'm pretty useless. :D

here's everyone gathering around and staring at the charcoal/food, wondering which one to start on first.

IMG_2034

looks like magic fire, don't it?

IMG_2035

after the extremely relaxed bbq (thank goodness the amount of food was just right) we went back up to my place and enjoyed Man U vs Chelsea and a round of 'let's tell alvin all the dumb/sick/idiotic stuff viv did in secondary school!'

THANKS GUYS. REALLY. -_-"'

i'd rather be one of the guys, thanks.

i think i am a rather manly chick.

jack, wai liong and i were on our way to the singapore flyer when it suddenly hit me (floodlights and all) how cool/awesome/stunning/grand/immense the F1 track was.

for those who don't know, the F1 Grand Prix will be held in Singapore this entire weekend. and it's a night race; FIRST EVER. *rocks out*

every step i took, my adrenaline increased significantly. the guys could tell because it correlated to the number of squeals i made at every turn. good thing wai was pretty stoked too (he's got a hidden beng streak in him - i couldn't tell! he secretly aspires to have one of those Fast and Furious cars. woah.) so i didn't seem like such a freak.

i got so excited by everything that i caught my walk on alvin's camera (THANK GOD I BROUGHT IT ALONG)...

we were walking past the NDP floating platform when i saw CARS!!! porsches and astons *drool* i crept in to take these shots.

IMG_2041

IMG_2045

IMG_2049

i had to beg the marshall to grab this shot of these astons, haha. :D

IMG_2050

the gorgeous s-turn; i'd LOVE to stand right here during the race

IMG_2059

---

extra: i don't follow F1, and am absolutely not a fan. i only know the reaaaally basic facts of it. i hate watching it on TV; tried it once and gave up coz there were just TOO MANY ROUNDS. it wasn't even a street race i think... just a regular circuit.

but the thought of listening to those incredibly powerful engines roaring with screeching tires gets my adrenaline all up. for me, it's about seeing the cars (i like cars, thanks to daddy dearest who provided an extensive knowledge of cars from primary 5 to JC; when we sold our beloved purple volkswagon, we lost our knowledge as well), watching them perform, and the atmosphere. that is surely priceless. (and not like watching on tv at all)

oh my goodness i can't wait.

---

when we reached the flyer, guess what?

there was an entire row of show-sports-cars... and among them a Lotus! XD

IMG_2062

but it's only an Exige... oh well, the Exige will have to do for now. dear Elise, i don't see you on the roads anymore and i miss you and your winged doors!! :(

the twin Lambos

IMG_2063

IMG_2070

wai's favourite (looks like one of those lime-cream ice creams, doesn't it?)

IMG_2067

jack and pete's birthday treat was so filling. we had seafood at seafood paradise, same one we had in defu lane... but this time, alanna's hands were free to take a picture of the crab 'lollipop'!!

IMG_2103

i was speechless when i bit into the entire pincer.

so. good.

oh, when we arrived at the restaurant, my F1 fever wasn't curbed yet (it only stopped when the crabs arrived hurhurhur). i fussily chose the seat facing the track (yeah we could see the track from our table, how great was that!) which was fantastic because within minutes, the race organizers were sending test drivers to test the track.

once i heard the first growl, i perked up from the plate of complimentary nuts i was staring at, and my huge grin was switched on full blast. i looked around, but nobody was really distracted by the track happenings but me.

no matter; i grabbed alvin's cam and shot out of my chair. and then i saw my first speeding car on the track. oh it was so beautiful, that Mercedes zooming down the lane. i didn't even bother turning on the camera... i was just reveling in the noise and speed. *ahhhhhh*

i tried taking a picture of the second merz that came shooting by but i was too slow, so it was just a streak of orange (its headlamp). soon after, alvin came to join me and adjusted his camera's settings: check out the multiple frame shots! :)

IMG_2096

IMG_2097

IMG_2098

IMG_2099

after we were done with dinner, we walked out and i really, really wanted to go try and see more of the track. actually we should've gone to see the pit stop at the flyer but somehow i totally forgot... coz i was distracted by an opening into the track in front of us.

*gasp* WE CAN GO IN!

we all went in. amidst my half-crazed excitement, we took these shots:

IMG_2107

IMG_2108

IMG_2113

after which we left the track from another opening... we'd wanted to stroll the entire track but i was afraid they might not have another exit/entrance, so we canned the idea.

10m later, there was no opening but hey, there're people on this part of the track too!! this time i didn't hesitate. carrie and i climbed over the barricade in our dresses (yeah man! carrie was in heels too!) and joined the rest of the people taking pictures on the track. it was great!!

until 2 metres down we saw an opening which was wide and had no barricade. DUH.

IMG_2116

IMG_2117

IMG_2118

we were just done taking this shot when someone (i think it might've been greg) exclaimed, 'SHIT IT'S LEWIS HAMILTON'

:O!!!!!!!!!! IT'S HIM! WHAT THE... *brain fails to function, adrenaline shoots into overload*

IMG_2120

he walked right past us with his entourage, they could be mclaren racers or his minders, i don't know but GOSH HE WALKED SO CLOSE!

that was so cool!!! coz we've been hanging out on the track for the longest time and they're the only team we met. how lucky are we?! i was SO SO GLAD i held out and kept wanting to stay on the track (i was excited about everything).

i totally regret not taking a picture with him... but nobody else was either. strange. i managed a strangled high pitched 'HI!' though. i waved, he waved back. :D:D:D

now... does anybody have a grand stand ticket for sunday? pretty please? i do love racing so!

(have you done this?) you've done this before!

i LOVE it when the guitars kick in. some of the lyrics are wrong though. sigh.

Anberlin - Breaking

Do you memorize theatrical lines
That seem to lead them in
Play the role with a good girl heart
Hide the tangled webs within
Who was it that led you on
That makes you want to hurt me so
Who do you want to forget
Who forgot you long ago

Do you still feel him
Calling in the air tonight
Do you still feel it
Seems like you've done this before

You make breaking hearts look so easy
Seems like you've done this before
You've got breaking hearts all but down
Have you've done this, you've done this before
You make stealing hearts look so easy
Where is the girl I adore
You've got breaking up all but down
And I can't love a thief anymore

Do you collect the souls you've lost
In the top of your dresser drawer
Count the number of tears displaced
On lonely bedroom floors
A machine where your heart once was
Slowly takes the place of you
Only hold the memories now
Of a love I thought I knew

Do you still feel him
Calling in the air tonight
Do you still feel it
Seems like you've done this before

You make breaking hearts look so easy
Seems like you've done this before
You've got breaking hearts all but down
Have you've done this, you've done this before
You make stealing hearts look so easy
Where is the girl I adore
You've got breaking up all but down
And I can't love a thief anymore

You make breaking hearts look so easy
You've got breaking hearts all but down
You make breaking hearts look so easy
Seems like you've done this before
You've got breaking hearts all but down
Have you've done this, you've done this before

The best you could hope to be is
Now just a bitter sweet memory
And now you make breaking hearts look so easy

online shopping is good.

after going broke for the past month, i decided to stop online shopping because it was really the one thing that was running my wallet dry.

as i was chatting with jade and complaining how EVIL online shopping was, i apologized for getting her into the whole online shopping madness (we're BOTH broke) but this sweet, sweet girl... you know what she said?

(this is a paraphrase, my msn conversations are in my work computer)

'why? i LIKE online shopping! i am now able to get items that're unique and not available here... don't apologise! i happily jumped on this wagon!'

*HUG*

also, i'd just raved to mel about how online shopping can meet her needs coz as an ex-stewardess she prefers items that're from overseas... which she can't get anymore. her logic: when you buy something in singapore, you look around and someone else is carrying the same thing. eeyur.

(that's the case with my poor charles and keith bag. what a pity, i do love that bag so.)

through this few months, i do realise that a lot of girls will benefit from online shopping.

things are cheaper in taiwan, clothes are more chiffon-y and girly in korea/japan/hong kong, you get items that're branded (like f21) but so much cheaper when you buy direct from US, you no longer have to fly to US to get victoria's secrets and coach, you can buy supre without heading downunder ETC ETC ETC.

you can even get obscure brands that aren't available in singapore.

so here're all my 'secret manual' shopping sites:

1. http://community.livejournal.com/spreehouse/ (this one has tons of bangkok sprees)

2. http://community.livejournal.com/sgspree/

3. http://community.livejournal.com/_spreee/

4. http://community.livejournal.com/spreesgalore

there are, i think, two more new ones but really, having rss feeds of these 4 sites are enough to keep me occupied for two hours per day.

but please take note:

1. don't become one freak of an addict like me. it will happen. reign yourself in though there're so many things that're cheap and good. pace yourself!!

2. taiwan items can be hit or miss (in terms of quality and cutting) and things are usually free size and in mandarin. it is cheap, but maybe buy one item before you get like 5 tops at a go. (like me.)

3. these are sprees: go for those that link you to buy directly from the website. those that have ready in-stocks are normally 50% more expensive. or just do a price comparison. be a smart consumer! do some research before you grab!

4. bangkok clothes are dirt cheap in bangkok. they are not cheap when they're modeled on someone in singapore. i tend not to buy those anymore because more often than not, the cutting is damn weird. or damn short. or transparent. it just doesn't look as good as the modeled picture. ack.

5. check your measurements carefully; check the pictures of the clothes carefully.

6. the exchange rates are currently different across the 4 spree sites. some may offer a lower exchange rate.

7. these are livejournal blogs, and to make life easier for yourself as an online shopper, you really should register with livejournal and create an account. some spree sites require you to add them as a friend.

8. get internet banking up and running. get the widget thingie so you don't have to run all over the place to transfer money.

9. go get yourself some:
-supre
-forever21 (YAY!)
-coach
-old navy (YAY!)
-VS (EXTRA YAY!)
-american eagles
-gojane
-OPI nail polish (YAY!)
-benefit
-drugstore (burt's bees, YAY!)
-ralph lauren
-bath and body works (YAY!)
-mineral makeup (everyday minerals, silk naturals - latter is highly recommended)
-charlotte russe
-havaianas (not sure if they're much cheaper than sg though. not really my thong, erm, i mean, thing.)
-david and goliath (YAY!)
-urban outfitters (YAY!)
-la senza

10. it's really easy. the first time you buy something it'd be long and tedious but once you get the hang of it you'd be buying something every other day. BUT YOU KNOW YOU SHOULDN'T; IT WAS MERELY AN EXPRESSION.

of course there're tons more, but some i don't really care for. well, if i think of anymore tips i'll add on.

happy spree-ing. :)

definition of spree:

an organization of many shoppers purchasing from a website, in order to save on postage costs.

job list on MC day

1. get MC - done
2. book bbq pit - done
3. prepare for cell - ARGH ARGH ARGH
4. compile the wedding list (don't freak out, it's not mine)
5. complete the risk assessment form - no need to do anymore
6. pack my cupboard (and maybe do a statement pieces post when i manage to find my clothes from the mountainous stack again)
7. teach dad to use camera
8. send out Q4's cell plan
9. read all the bank brochures i've acquired

*rolls all over bed in procrastination*

i'm not exactly free, you see. i might as well go to work... but it beats traveling to NUS and back - that's 3 hours of my day gone.

just some stuff

my, my, the htc touch hd looks so desirable. comes with a stylus too! :D

it'll be just another reason to bring my work with me everywhere i go. haha. a really pretty reason.

---

i LOVE plums. i just stuffed my face with TWO. but now there's no more. *sadded*

(pronounced 'plahm' not 'ploom'. that's plume, which is like, a feather or a bunch of feathers or something. you definitely can't eat that.)

---

i'm aging.

well, it doesn't really scare me YET, but my panda eyes are an annoyance. after reading tons of reviews on makeupalley.com, i've decided to try this:

Burt's Bees Repair Serum with Attar of Rose.

i like the smell while alvin thinks it's a little herby. it's actually an oil, which i've been happily rubbing all over my eyes and face. i'm hoping the oil will reduce hyperactive aging because i have really dry skin. while dry skin has blessed me with a lot less pimples, i know wrinkles will hit me earlier than someone with oily skin.

hey, pros and cons ya?

the result is... my dark eye circles are still there. :(

BUT! my skin is more radiant and smooth, with less red spotches (yet another result of my dry skin). yep, skin is less dull, which is an improvement.

oh well, back to using concealer i guess.

---

took MC today. if i don't i might have a meltdown at work. it's time for a long holiday.

*scratchy throat*

best boyfriend ever

have you ever seen a shopaholic run broke, and then go cold turkey because there's just that one beautiful dress and jacket she adores but she only has $9 left in her account?

it's not a pretty sight, but alvin is unfazed.

and he is willing to help her with money management and curbing the online shopping addict's habits...

and also to lend her spare cash just so she doesn't have to stick her hands into her savings account and ruin her interest rates...

and allow her to use the money he lent to get the beautiful dress because he thinks it's nice too (but he's not too happy about the jacket because 'there's too much lace! eee.')

T_T

thank you dear. T_T

my most expensive dress yet (i love it i love it!!)

i took my off-in-lieu (national day's leave) last thursday with alvin. it was SUCH a great day to relax; the weather was breezy and we got our hair trimmed in time for yy's wedding and walked all the way to aston's for lunch and had really good cheesecake at katong for dessert.

after walking back to parkway to check out the banks' interest rates (did you know almost every single bank in singapore has a branch at Parkway? i really want to stay in Marine Parade now. it's so convenient!) we went for a bit of shopping.

just as we were nearing Topshop, i was commenting to alvin that i should go ahead and get the Topshop card since i really love their stuff.

alvin: how much to get the card?
me: you must buy $150 worth i think?
alvin: *sputters*
me: oh please, just get one dress and you'd hit $150 already.
alvin: *sputters even more* ONE dress??!?!
me: yar, it's Topshop what. but i would really PAY if i see something gorgeous.

we stepped into Topshop. alvin started going around and picking randomly weird looking items and waving at me to try them on.

my response to every single one was a raised eyebrow and me mouthing, 'N-O.'

then he picked up a really short tunic/dress (?) that was TOO GREEN. he waved it in the air with a super large grin.

'NOOO-O.' *rolls eyes*

i turned back to that black top clutched in my hand. half of my brain was going, 'hmm this cutting will not flatter me.' while the other half went back and thought about that odd looking green thing alvin picked up.

it was beginning to grow on me. i started imagining how it'd look, and how i always get drawn to rather inconventional pieces. well, the green is REALLY bright, wonder if i can carry it off... where can i wear it to...?

i wandered over to the green dress (alvin's still browsing for weird stuff, sigh) and picked it up. alvin noticed and came over, 'eh i really thought this was nice leh.'

'oh haha i thought u were still being retarded! sorry.'

alvin: -_-"' so are u going to try it?
me: why not? i like trying weird stuff. :D

half an hour later (and $146 poorer)...

TA-DA!!!

MY GREEN DRESS!! :D

size 8 somemore! YAY!! jogging is workinggg!!!

man i really love the dress. seeing it again makes me smile.

---

alas, my joy did not last long.

on monday i was looking through forever21 when i saw something that made my head wail and scream 'NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO'

i would've yelled and bashed my head in if i wasn't at the office. :(

SIGH.

i saw this:

bleh. selling for USD24.60. i think i will buy this too. the black is nice. skirt is also less poufy so i can wear it for erm, less flamboyant functions.

---

and while looking for pictures of my green dress, i found the red version!!

it should be appearing in singapore soon.

jade, you want? :D

we can go around like christmas decorations when you come!

inside joke: eh... the skirt is shaped like a dumpling... ... hahaha! :)
