Heroes, episode 10: 6 months ago

this was taken from the director of Heroes' blog. see HRG peeking out from behind? hahaha.

this has to be the best series i've watched so far. yes, even better, and MUCH better than alias (yes, duhhh). but then again i have much to catch up on Lost. and Prison Break.

even so, it seems unlikely that the 2 above-mentioned shows can appeal to me like Heroes does. they just don't seem... fun enough to watch. sometimes i just need to take a break from intense thinking, which is what Lost and PB are sometimes... most of the time, about.

i love it because of how comic book-ish the show is. it is not like the x-men. and how cool the characters are because the writers KNOW how to milk the 'wow' potential from each character. there's so much room for development!!

hurrah!!

and no intense furrow-brow moments in Heroes! ok, maybe sometimes. oh, i don't know. i really enjoy Heroes. and discussing over it with Farty, until i get all mixed up and forget how the story really went.

sylar is freaking creepy. *shudder* and i almost cried over Charlie. almost.

next week is the final episode, then Heroes will be returning in January 2007. i wonder how i will survive... it's definitely be a cliff-hanger!!

and spoilers say we will lose a Hero. well, Farty and i will wait and see if it's Peter, who will, of course, resuscitate because of the presence of Claire. *excited*

forecast

today's view from my windows -

dettol clouds with faint gold shimmer outlines, and rays of sunshine peeking through some pockets where there're no puffy clouds.

it looks like one of those children's books whenever they depict the kingdom of Heaven. :D

anyway, before i start studying and going MIA:

Monday, November 27, 2006

heh heh.

oh don't worry, i've already snapped out of it.

actually, i was turned around about an hour after the whole 'oh woe is meeee' episode. it might have been because i had food in my tummy and with the glucose i could think better(?)

anyway!

i am the child of the God of the 'Impossible'! *smug*smug*

if it is His will, and He gave me my project (which at that time was deemed impossible, again by yours truly), why can't He bless me with a scholarship??

i think i've really limited Him in my mind. and i've forgotten what He is capable of (e.g. placing me in NUS though my grades were sucky, giving me my honours project though my grades were sucky etc) and that His plan is to bless me in ways i cannot imagine.

so, as long as it is in my best interest, my Father will give it to me. i know that for sure.

i'm so overwhelmed with love right now, coz i know my future's in the greatest hands ever.

the girl who's lost her motivation

i called my prof to ask if i could place his name down as a referral in my application for a particular Masters scholarship.

his answer? "sure! but i know the people handling these applications, and your CAP is really too low... it's possible that just by looking at your CAP they will chuck out the application. i need to let you know ok?"

i knew that already. but i just wanted to try anyway.

hearing his words, i was filled with regret. regret that i slacked off in 3rd year, where my only opportunity to pull up my CAP to a 2nd upper was totally wasted.

you know, when i first started uni, i told myself that i need to do well. no more regretting not studying enough when i get my grades back. no more regret viv!!

but i forgot where my drive came from. i forgot i told myself i didn't want to regret anymore.

so now, i am likely to graduate with a 2nd lower. with shitloads of regret following me.

swimming under the stormy sky

today was the day i had promised to bring the melville children's club to swim at my place.

yeah simply because my pool has a pirate ship and slides.

we were to meet at 5pm. it started raining at 2:30pm. immediately calls came in with the kids all worrying the same thing:

"JIEJIE VIVIEN IT'S RAINING LEH!! (you can hear the 'it's-doomsday' note in their voices) HOW AH? SWIMMING HOW AH? ARE WE STILL SWIMMING???"

heh heh. so i took the opportunity to teach them to pray... for good weather!

and good weather came amidst the stormy, brewy skies and it only slightly drizzled while we were in the pool. good stuff. :D

so we all met and silly me didn't wear my glasses down, so i was pretty blind and squinty all the time.

i got Farty and adrean to help me with (supposedly all) the kids, but being boys... they ran off with the other boys. the primary 5 and 6s. but ok la, it was 2 "adults" to 3 boys so i felt that it was safe...

leaving me with my ratio of 1 adult: 9 girls.

good thing most of them stayed near me. AND NO ONE DROWNED. *phew*

after playing a few games in the main pool, we moved to the sandpool with the ship and slides.

woah, the kids went mad.

we spent like, an hour at the sand pool, just sliding down the big slide. we were all trying different stunts; forwards, backwards, standing, sitting on jolie's ring-float, falling down the slide (?!) etc

again, thank God no one got injured. T_T

well now my eyes are smarting from all the chlorine, my legs aching from all that swimming/chasing/wading in shallow water.

but it was so, so fun i want to bring the kids over again.

wanna come along the next time? :)

distracted at home!!

i woke up early to study coz i'd thought to myself: the house will be quiet! nobody's at home! i can concentrate!

until i turned around and saw this -

and then this...

then i saw owners bringing their dogs out for walkies!

(that's a beagle and a long haired dachshund)

AND THEN I SAW OSCAR.

sigh, i need to stay away from the windows of my house.

sometimes, food makes us fight

i had these heavenly cubes for my study snack today.

they are cubes of cheese with flavoring, like fried onion (yum), mushroom (it tastes just like mushroom soup) and blue cheese (moo).

it's great coz they're so soft, and little cubes!! i cannot resist little cubes!!! so easy to pop into your mouth, and then they MELT and oh, the explosion of flavor!!! then i'd just use my tongue and press them to the roof of my mouth, and then slowly roll all over my tongue until my tastebuds cannot take it any longer (and my saliva starts gushing out because of the savory overload)... and then i'll swallow everything down. *smacks my lips*

YUMMI.

i am now about to go try the red packaging ones.

*slobber* you have to try them too!!! :D~~~~

'lo! HELLO. hello! hello!! + sign language karaoke

damn, this is funny.

i love how the baby has to gasp for breath coz its laughing so hard. heehee.

and to mel: with you, SIA is indeed a great way to fly! (haha damn cheesy i know. and i found the slogan on my dad's recently acquired Airbus model.)

the primary 4 cook

i was pretty proud of myself for cooking up an instant noodle storm yesterday morning - i had to add my own seasoning!! coz it was just plain instant noodles without the sachets of seasoning and sauce.

so anyway, i was still patting myself on the back for the culinary effort, when i gave one of my girls a call for some children's club planning (we're swimming this saturday! :D) -

me: hello marissa!! eh i ask you, can u swim? are you free this saturday??

marissa: (sounding distracted) uh, uh, why ah... huh? swim ah? yah i can. uh...

me: ok good good. can you dive to the bottom of the pool?

marissa: yah, i got bronze and silver already. haha. eh vivien jiejie, when ah?

me: this saturday! eh you busy is it?

marissa: no la, my fingers dirty. can i call you back later?

me: (knowingly) HAHA! eating chicken wings ah??

marissa: no, baking cake.

me: !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

wah lau i suck can??! T_T

/takes a sip of champagne

...

ok back to studying.

girls just love knowing that they have an effect on you.

From Jonathan Carroll's blog (which i stole from Farty)

Kryptonite
by Ron Koertge

Lois liked to see the bullets bounce
off Superman's chest, and of course
she was proud when he leaned into
a locomotive and saved the crippled
orphan who had fallen on the tracks.

Yet on those long nights when he was
readjusting longitude or destroying
a meteor headed right for some nun,
Lois considered carrying just a smidgen
of kryptonite in her purse or at least
making a tincture to dab behind her ears.

She pictured his knees giving way,
the color draining from his cheeks.
He'd lie on the couch like a guy with
the flu, too weak to paint the front
porch or take out the garbage. She
could peek down his tights or draw
on his cheek with a ball point. She
might even muss his hair and slap
him around.

"Hey, what'd I do?" he'd croak just
like a regular boyfriend. At last.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

i'll open this for discussion -

what're the benefits a boyfriend gets? i'd like to know.

i'll start off with a few of my own:

1. being able to hold hands
2. going out on dates as and when
3. calling the other anytime

i can't think of anymore? is this really all???

i (L) rockapella.

i know i am extremely suaku coz i'm 23 and rockapella's my first ever concert in the esplanade.

i'm really glad it was them. even though i was invited to the concert and didn't exactly scream 'oh, oh i wanna go~!!'

they were absolutely fabulous. when they started off with their first song, i admit i was geared to be nonchalant and maybe i foresaw boredom in the not-so-far-away horizon.

but i was so "XD" blind, coz by the time i was halfway there (to the horizon; yes, bad analogy but i don't care) it was all pretty and sparkling and SO GOOD I WAS CHEERING AFTER EVERY SONG.

wah lau. T_T

this was definitely not an acapella concert where the band just sang their hearts out. coz the lead singer lost his voice halfway. haha.

but all was well! they were so entertaining that i'd clap with delight everytime they did something special e.g. a dance move/ very low voice inserted into a section of the song/ when they came back for 2 encores.

really, as i'm typing this, the only phrase in my mind is 'sheer delight'.

i'm kinda speechless right now, coz my words don't do them any justice. you have to watch them if they ever come back.

i think i melted like, 15 minutes into the set, into a 'puddle of fat' as kel would put it.

*wobble*

------------------------------------------------------------------------

on a separate note, Taffy Boy, i was right!!

George Baldi of Rockapella was NOT a Boyz II Men member.

Boyz II Men on Wikipedia

which means what was written in the bulletin was right, as well as my assumption.

*smart-ass cheeky look*

i seriously need to do more travelling than this

create your own visited country map

Your travel type: Party Animal

The Party Animal always wears sunglasses during his vacation. He likes a good hotel, with a swimming pool and room service. A couple of drinks at night, maybe see a show, maybe roll the dice, that's the way to spend the evening.

Culture? A museum? The others can go while the Party Animal stays in bed. You'll find him by the side of the pool when you get back with a martini to get rid of the hangover.

can-can's concert recital

when i stepped in, i expected to be bored. the programme was full of opera songs!

i thought to myself, 'bleh. i think i'll just wait for candice's performance (a pop song) then.'

5 minutes into the show...

*!!!PHWOAR!!

by the end of it, comparing the pop songs to the musicals to the operatic/latin songs, i absolutely loved the opera ones. my gosh, i'm actually a closet opera fan!!!

*dum dum DUMMMMM!!!!!!!!*

but of course, i only loved the ones that the singers could actually carry off.

some just fell flat.

but wow the ones that could make it, just soared on and on. the feeling was incredible.

it gave me chills up and down my spine!! all my goosepimples popped out. i felt like a plucked chicken.

i attributed my sudden love for opera to the years when i was stuck in the Crescent choir, singing weird Phantom of the Opera musicals and those old Latin songs. of course, those songs chosen were really beautiful...

but the melody for singers belonging to Alto (ME ME ME) were really tuneless. and it was so difficult to sing because we can't hear ourselves (altos have to project so much more than sopranos!! it's the low/high pitch thingie)

wah, it was a nightmare.

which also made me APPRECIATE how well those singers were doing! my goodness!!

i'm still awed. they make it seem so easy and natural but it's really shitloads of practice, working on the diaphragm.

i know i'd gladly pay to watch opera now. i hate to say this, but...

I ACTUALLY LOVE THE OPERA!!!

T_T

phantom of the opera, anyone?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

here is a review of candice's performance, of which i totally agree in! can-can! i want to go again next year!! mebbe u can join the opera ladies next year! woo hoo!

ah crap, now i'm over-excited.

DO NOT GO TO RICKEY ARGHHHHHH

dammit, i'd just ruined my own guilty pleasure of the week.

i've been watching Heroes, from NBC (yes, i'm watching downloads COZ IT'S SO GOOD ARGH!!)

it's a fantastic show about mutants who will eventually save the world!! it's almost akin to x-men but not. coz the first 6 eps the characters are still learning of their powers and have not grouped together yet. wee!!

anyways! i was supposed the watch the 6th episode today, but due to my laziness i will be watching it tmr.

then i HAD to go to rickey.org. i just had to.

stupid me! like a moth drawn to fire, i started reading his summary of what happens in episode 6, even though a small voice started screaming, 'nooooooooooooooooooo don't give in! don't give innnnnnnn!!!'

it failed.

there was even one point, just as i was reading rickey writing 'but the best part of the episode is when we find out Exxx... ...'

i closed my eyes!! i had to stop myself!! nooooooooo~

'read it! YOU WANT TO!!'

then i opened them and finished the entire post. i even clicked on the link that brought me to see all the screenshots he took.

T_T

there goes all the suspense. every episode is so !!! that i keep going *GASP~!!!!* at every turn.

good fun. very good fun. yay tmr!!

*reels*

oh. my. gawd.

my primary school friend is getting married.

MARRIED!!!

gah!!!!!!!!! i haven't even graduated yet!!

(miss goh ming fang... when did this happen?? oh but i'm so glad you're so happy now! *HUGGLES*)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

you know, i used to think about marriage a lot. like, long term planning and stuff.

but hearing news of people getting married... it just doesn't appeal to me anymore.

i guess i only thought about marriage when i had someone. now that i'm single, i'm back to being a commitment phobe.

(ok wow, the room just suddenly turned dark when i typed that. creepy.)

happy halloween!

yesterday after class we trooped down to bob's place to celebrate 'dressing up and collecting/giving out candy' day .

------------------------------------------------------------
side-track:
there's no pleasing anybody.

i tried to squirm out of 'celebrating' coz i said it was a pagan festival and got shot down. and then i tried to explain to other people that i'm not really celebrating halloween and got shot down too.

i give up. i'm just using halloween as an excuse to dress up and collect candy, ok?

-------------------------------------------------------------

so we went down to bob's place coz every year during this time, the whole street's full of children trick or treating.

our theme was Pirates!! so obviously, i went down wearing the same costume i used for the Microbiology Welcome Tea, haha. i think next year we'll be pirates again.

by 530pm, children were going around the streets already. my gosh, some were incredible cute. i loved all the children dressed as little pumpkins, GAHHHHHHHH.

and then we also had one scary witch (with no children in tow) trick or treating. hmm, odd.

some of the teenagers were really cynical though, and sometimes rude. had half a mind to shoo them away, but we jolly pirates were in too good a mood. they should be lucky we didn't make them walk the plank. ARRRRRRrrrrrRRRRRR!!

alanna was tasked with the rationing of candy (booty) to the trick or treaters, but because she had on her eye patch, she had no depth perception whatsoever.

it was really quite funny to see her totally miss the candy bag and drop everything on the driveway while smiling. hahahahaha

gerg came as a penguin!! after we finished giving out the candy, though. he was really late, but when we walked around the neighbourhood checking out the houses' decorations, he had a throng following him squealing, 'hey is that a penguin??! turn around mister penguin!!'

ahahahaha great fun.

well, this was trial run #1. next year, bigger budget and we must go trick or treating before opening our doors for giving out candy!!

we rounded off the night playing Hoopla. it was just hilarious, especially with blur-cock jo, and her much more competent boyfriend kenji. heh.

well, back to work again today! (having a bit of a fever actually. boooo.)
